Nicole Klaymoon’s Embodiment Project (EP) is a multi-disciplinary performance company that weaves together various street dance styles, modern dance, theater, spoken word and live music. We are currently deep in the creative process, forming our third annual season of new work called,House of Matter. This evening-length piece is set to premiere June 8-10th, 2012 at Dance Mission Theater in San Francisco.
House of Matter will feature critically acclaimed vocalist and songwriter Valerie Troutt along with her full band, Moon Candy. Moon Candy is comprised of eight gifted musicians, who create original, live house music. The spirit from which house music and dance were born, namely, dynamic self-expression and safety within race and sexual identity, are essential to our project. Klaymoon and Troutt are collaborating intimately for this production to build fluid relationships between the musicians, vocalists, and dancers. We relish the opportunity to use all original music and highly physical urban dance traditions as a vehicle for personal and political narratives.
House of Matter is an in-depth investigation of how the “household” in which we were raised is a microcosm of the world that we create for ourselves. In this interdisciplinary piece, performers will unearth memory, reveal secrets, and celebrate the bittersweet of the human experience — all with the intention of dismantling the thick walls of our individual “houses” to build bridges between the different demographics. These artists will come together to explore the ways in which human connection and transparency allow us to face the uncomfortable truths of our personal history so that we can rediscover what “home” really means to each of us.
